Historic Dahlonega Gold Museum!

Don’t miss out on one of Dahlonega’s Historic Sights! This is a must see when you are visiting Dahlonega! The Gold Museum is a must see for the Historian in all of us!

A few years back the State of Georgia was making some cut-backs. The Museum was part of the impact by lack of funding. So that was when the organization was  formed to assist them in this time of need.  If you want to assist the Gold Museum in Donations they have a Friends organization that is very busy helping the Museum with much-needed renovations and other  expenses. If you would like to become a Friends of Dahlonega Gold Museum Member or just make a donation Click Here for more information

The museum is housed inside the 1836 Lumpkin County Courthouse, the oldest courthouse in Georgia. Visitors can also explore the courthouse features, including beautiful wooden chapel seats from 1889 and the judge’s chambers. The town of Dahlonega is a popular destination for gold panning, shopping, and sightseeing.

We first stopped at Crisson last June on our way to Michigan and because our experience was so great with Tony, Tammy and their staff that we made a stop again today on our way back to Florida! Both times, we purchased a high concentrate 5 gallon bucket of ore and were very pleased with the outcome. We found a large variety of beautiful gems, many of which are certainly jewelry worthy. A particular nice large ruby yielded three high quality rubies which were set in rings for my daughter, granddaughter and myself. The rubies appraised for a total of $20,000! Not a bad return on a $100.00 bucket of ore! Definitely worth the stop!

Honest, integrity, and outstanding customer relations.  All in all I will refer anybody and everyone  I know to go and visit Crisson’s  Mine.  Not only did you welcome my family, but you remembered us when we inadvertently left a purchase behind.  Returning it with free shipping.
All my family and I enjoyed our visit and you all at the mine!  Plus we did find some good gold, and golden memories for my grandchildren which that trip was all about.
Again my special thanks, God Bless you all!  lastly you now have a lifetime customer.  Please feel free to post this, and many special thanks.

Sincerely,

Kevin Cichocki

Mining Adventure For Kids & Adults

First off Crisson is easy to drive to off the main road out of Dahlonega. Great gift shop when you first enter. Very helpful cashier. Suggest stop at Visitor Center in town to pick up a brochure to save $1.00 off of the $10 entry fee for adults and kids 4 and up. They do give you a bucket of sand with gemstones to sift through and a pan of sand to wash which is a good deal. Just give the tickets at the large covered pavilion to the gentleman at wash table.

Do the gold pan first. It takes about 10-15 minutes after he shows you the procedure. Every pan will have tiny flecks of gold. They give you a small water filled bottle to contain gold flecks you find. We had 3 boys 7 and under. They were more excited about looking for stones. We had 6 buckets of sand and they each discovered large gemstones. No need for a magnifying glass. Good size specimens.

You are standing around a boardwalk and no chance of getting dirty. This is sand not red Georgia clay. You do stand and the rinse area is at good elevation for all. Suggest you purchase an enhanced bucket for $30 less $5.00 discount coupon at visitor center. That bucket was loaded and doubled the treasure for the kids.

Don’t forget the plastic card at shop which clearly identifies each gemstone. The gemstones all come from Franklin, NC gemstone capital of US. I have mined there and these make great specimens. This is a fun adventure for all.
